VeraTech and CatSalut team up for clinical information modeling with openEHR archetypes

CatSalut and VeraTech collaborate to build a knowledge-based clinical information modeling platform for healthcare in the openEHR standard.

The "openEHR EHR Modeling" project will provide healthcare professionals with the ability to represent clinical information in a structured and longitudinal way..

VeraTech, a Valencian company specializing in semantic interoperability, has announced the completion of an innovative project in collaboration with CatSalut, an entity attached to the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, developed during the year 2022. CatSalut's mission is to guarantee quality healthcare to all the citizens of Catalonia, by correctly matching the healthcare offer to the needs of the citizens.

The project developed entitled "OpenEHR Modeling of Electronic Health Record of Catalonia," aims to set the basis for the implementation of a new electronic health record platform for Catalonia, based on knowledge and structured and longitudinal representation of clinical information.

The project focused on developing methodologies and good practices in the modeling of clinical information structures (archetypes), as well as identifying existing clinical knowledge resources and archetypes useful for modeling the clinical information object of the project. VeraTech contributed with its knowledge in the modeling of archetypes and templates according to the openEHR standard, including its design and implementation, to train CatSalut professionals in the use of this standard. Also, the implementation of the first archetypes that will be part of the new electronic health record platform of Catalonia was carried out.

Among the tasks carried out by the Valencian company, it defined a governance and archetype modeling methodology for the Servei Català de Salut and transferred knowledge for its functional independence in the modeling process. It also defined a guide of good practices that will improve the quality and harmonization of the information models created in CatSalut.

With the work done, CatSalut has been able to deploy a solid base for its next steps. They are currently working on a forecast oncology plan in collaboration with NHS England to share the resulting archetypes. In addition, medium-term research will be conducted to include the clinical guidelines and phenotyping processes, which will drive research in the field of healthcare.

This project has demonstrated VeraTech's scientific and consulting capacity to successfully collaborate with innovative projects in the field of health and technology and its commitment to the development of advanced solutions for the healthcare sector.
